There was this robot toy I had when I was 7 or 8 years old that I loved. It was orange with this cool reflective visor on its head for its eyes. But one morning I woke up and couldn’t find it! Several years went by and still, I couldn’t find it.
One day cleaning out the garage I came across a bright orange object. It was shaped like a robot with a reflective face—and immediately my memories zapped into my head! This was my missing toy! But…it was a reflector that you put in your bicycle spokes…what the heck? My brain had betrayed me! My brain had imaged this incredible, irreplaceable toy! I laughed and tossed it. Kinda wish I had hung onto it now.
Well, toys have really come a long way over the past 10 to 20 years which brings me to the point of this post. Hot Toys is a company out of Hong Kong that makes high-end collectible toy, and I do mean high-end! The collectibles I checked out were all OVER $100 bucks. But it’s easy to see why…
The detail in these collectibles is mind boggling! At simple glance you could mistake it for the actual Christian Bale. Someone, quick – lend me a couple hundred bucks!
This commissioner Gordon piece is exceptional! Even the mustache looks awesome!
The Joker collectible is down right creepy in its detail and likeness to the late Heath Ledger.
A lot of love went into making these pieces, and even though they are pricey I’m glad to see that there is a place in the world for pieces of art like these. When you look at them you remember the movie and the character vividly.
Hot Toys put a lot of love into their work. Go check them out. They do other franchises as well, but they are featuring The Dark Knight at the moment.
I’ve been a designer for 15 years. I love creating & sharing. So, I’m hoping this site is a place to help me do both. I do freelance work as well. If you’re interested in what I can do, please take a look at my portfolio.
I started out years ago in print and have now designed in several mediums; including interactive experiences, as well as video and motion graphics.
